As you can see, Riyadh's Souk Al Zal is also yielding other than Saudi pieces. Antique ethnic jewelry from pretty much all Islamic countries can be found in Saudi Arabia. This is due to the many pilgrims visiting the country (Makkah and Medinah), bringing along these treasures. Many are selling them to part-finance their trip. This was already in old days one of the reasons for silver smith techniques to travel the world and for regions to adapt similar designs/techniques as found several thousand kilometers away in other Islamic destinations.

    Many thanks for your comments - much appreciated. Yes, the center piece is indeed very unique. The seller had also two smaller Tajik necklaces and one of them had an extremely cute center piece. However, I cannot buy the whole shop every time I am in Riyadh. I told the seller that I would buy this piece if he still has it during my next visit to the Souk... Regards. Peter
