A lovely piece, Peter. Most of the stones, apart from the coral in the middle of the pendant look as if they are carnelians... quite unusual in a piece like this.
Dear Thelma; Many thanks for your comments. Carnelians are quite often used in Saudi jewelry as these stones are readily available in the mountainous regions of Yemen and assume as well of Saudi Arabia. It could be, however, that these carnelians have been more recently inserted to make up for missing stones. The fittings for these stones are oval and therefore, they would not have been for coral but other stones, such as carnelians or maybe turquoises. By the way, I am still looking for Saudi bracelets, necklaces, etc. containing turquoise inserts but was not yet successful...
With kind regards. Peter
