  • What a find, Preethi! I like the way all the little gold pendant beads have different design features.

  • Wonderful Preethi, thanks for sharing. Is the price of gold really, really high in India as well?

  • Whoops, now I see this is gold  over lac. Interesting, the necklace is fairly light then? I have a similar gold washed lac necklace but it is Uzbeki.

  • Thanks Thelma and Patti!

Patti, I thought the price was quite reasonable. I paid about 48 USD per gram for this one - and the seller reduced the price a bit based on estimated lac content. The 48 USD also included what in India we call 'making charges' - a small addition to the market price of gold for labour charges.

  • Ah yes, forgot to mention the weight - 30 grams. The World of Necklaces shows a very similar necklace, but with more elements than mine. I could post that reference picture later if you're interested.

Is a photo of your Uzbeki necklace available here?

  • Dear Preethi: This looks wonderful. I love the pink thread, fitting so nicely with the gold - a real great piece! Regards. Peter

all fits together. thank you for posting

  • This is very elegant. I have a question- when you describe it as " gold over lac " what does that mean?

  • Thanks Toya. Lac (shellac), is a resin from the cocoon of a beetle, and is used as a filler. Thin gold sheets are fixed on this filler, and then worked on.
