This necklace is featuring coins from the Ottoman empire, Austria as well as Venice. It is in an excellent condition.
This is a beautiful necklace Peter. I love this design. There are versions of this type of necklace in Palestine and Syria. Do you think they were copied from Bulgaria while under Ottoman influence?
That's an interesting question, Lynn. I think a lot of jewellery travelled quite far within the Ottoman Empire. I recently saw a Bavarian/Austro-Hungarian choker necklace being sold that was bought in Aleppo by the seller. And if pieces travelled that far they may well have had influence on local jewellery designs. It only seems difficult to say what influenced whom or of the influence was mutual (at least with my limited knowledge). But it's a fascinating topic.
Oh, and of course: this is a gorgeous choker - I love the diversity of coins, Peter.
I love this , have always wanted this style ! Do you have any more ? !
Dear Linda,
There are similar such units still available and I have quite a few of them. The dealer in Bulgaria knows that I like them and keeps on offering them (only if they are of good quality with exceptional coins and in good condition). I will let you know once I come across a similar unit. With kind regards. Peter
Thank you. I could sell also besides one for myself. thanks
