A digital archive showcasing the extensive collection of jewellery and adornment images shared on the former Ethnic Jewels Ning site over the years. These images have significantly enriched discussions on cultural adornment and its global dispersion.

Two mother-of-pearl buckles with religious iconographical themes. From the Kayseri area, folk art. Originally set in a metal (often silver) frame. The representations are (top) a scene with (at least) one saint in a medallion, surrounded by flower motifs, and (bottom) a large bird (probably an eagle, which is the symbol of St. John the Evangelist). On exhibit in the Kayseri Museum of Archaeology. (© Dick Osseman).PS: Placed in the Byzantine section of the museum, without specific dating nor mention of the origin. My personal appreciation: much younger than 'Byzantine' (395-1071); probably 18th-19th century. Rum (Anatolian Greek) or Armenian.
