  • Yes, another bargain suq find.  I have seen quite a few of this type single without a mate, and lots more broken pieces in bins at the used silver dealer.  Even though my ornaments are missing a few bits, I liked that they had been well-used, and still in complete enough condition to have a sense about their original state.  I see a lot of fragments from this type of ornament re-purposed by jewelers for modern necklaces.  The style of workmanship on the above ornaments is very similar to other pieces I have seen that were fabricated in Moknine, so I suspect that these were made in that city just to the south of Mahdia.  Moknine was apparently once a major production center for much of the Sahel silver work.
