Mexican Tile

One of the things that fascinates me is how cultures cross-pollinate. Here is a tile mural in San Antonio, Texas. The tile came across the border from Mexico. It is the result of Spanish influence, but one also finds these in North Africa with almost identical iconography! Who would think that North African art forms could end up in Mexico?

  • This is a very documented trail...i can't remember a couple book's names right now studying the medieval islamic influences that have reached the Americas.

    I can only think right now of the architecture of the famed Haciendas to the introduction of almonds for example...both with a strong arabic/islamic background...

    It is indeed fascinating and should constitute the basis of peace construction between people and a fabulous argument in the face of the war mongerers!!
