  It really interesting to see this beads and pendants threaded in a necklace this way.

   

  usually if i am not mistaken they would come by pieces cuz they were rather used as individual ornaments on headresses, temporals, hair decoration and sometimes thrown in necklaces

   

  you can see from this old picture i ahve posted a while ago some of them used as such

   

  One more thing is that these beads were quite common in presaharan Morocco

  That is a nice photo.  I got it this way and my feeling is that it's probably made up from parts but the thing is that all this had same patina and all were same, finding such all at once or the person had a collection of them and saved and made up?  I wouldn't say it was a necklace. It didn't look that made up though so it might have been done for actual wear and not tourist sale. not sure

  To me they do not seem recent, but the whole assembly, I thought from the beginning, did not look like having started its existence this way but rather as consisting of beads which had been used before but are now together for the purpose of making this necklace. And that struck me as typical enough, for Morocco, and creating quite a nice assembly. And it seems consistent with what Ayis says about their coming by pieces and sometimes "thrown in necklaces". He also says they were quite common in "presaharan Morocco", and all this suggests to me that he is suggesting to us that it would be quite plausible for them to be good, used beads first employed for other purposes, then brought together, and strung into a necklace. And that is how they seem to me to come across. Whoever did it, moreover, did something perfectly sensible (and in tune with the Moroccan tradition of constantly re-cycling beads into newly arranged necklaces).

  Indeed Joost, and for sure they are very early.

   

  Linda, to be able to gather such number you have to comb all the Marrakech's shops for years and years!!

   

  I always buy these beads when i come across them but i can only get a couple each time i am in Morocco

  I should have sold it for more money then! It was not that expensive. I had another find there  too I found a necklace  with carnelian rings many that were really old also. Not the bakolite ones but the original carnlian ones that were a collection  of them really old ones. that was a good find.
