Looking for more info on my Mezuzah.

I bought this Mezuzah in Morocco, in the 90´. I was told it belonged to a synagogue. I read that Moroccan Jews are particular about enclosing the mezuzah in a metal or wooden case on which the letters Shin, Daleth and Yud (spelling the name of G d Shad-dai) are written.I will appreciate any info on Moroccan Old Mezuzoth. Thanks!!

  • Hi Veronica,

Nice to have you back with us. What is a Mezuza? Is this metal or wood?

  • Hola Chantal, thanks! This mezuzah case is made of brass and the parchement is a pergamino.  The parchement is rolled and goes inside the case. Mezuzah means "doorpost"in Hebrew.  The mezuzah is affixed to the doorframe in Jewish homes to fulfill the mitzvah (Biblical commandment) written in the Deuteronomy. It´s related with identity, presence of God and protection for the house.

This one has three letters SHA, DA I, one of the bilical names of God, also meaning "Guardian of Israel's doors".

I would appreciate if someone knows has more info on Moroccan old Mezuzoth.
