  • Wonderful design. Very similar to Tuareg designs on metal, amulets, leather etc....and some Berber pottery. What are "vinifera fibres"?

  • Absolutely magnificent textile piece.  Textiles were my own fascination as I traveled in the Middle East and South Asia.  Jewelry became interesting later, after I began to see the tribal motifs carried on in the jewelry as well as in the textiles.  Oh, and what is vinifera?  If it had Latin roots, I would guess "iron vine,"  but it probably has nothing to do with Latin ;)

  • Rafia Vinifera is a palm tree species in the genus Rafia.

    The useful part is removed from the youngest leaves and dried in the sun, then cut into thin strips, woven by men with a simple frame and embroidered by women.
