  • Diadem looks Kabyle but the other jewelry does not.
  • These pictures were staged by early french fotographers for the french and european orientalist market.

     

    When we get to se many of them, you get to recognise the same jewelry being used on different women...sometimes a fancy decor surrouds the model...often nude or semi nude pictures are also shot

     

    They used to appear when there was an military revolt such as the Kabyle revolt in mid 19th century followed by a great deal of pseudo "kabyle " beauties wearing whatever the photographer could gather from local bazars!

     

    No historical value but some great evidence on long ago disappeared pieces of wich we only have pictures.....Oulad nails are one example of that for exmaple, regarding the huge spiked pectoral with fibulas wich ASAIK are extinct and have not survived in any public collection, only in old pictures (mainly prostitutes holding cigarets, hahaha!)
