    the piece comes from the Zadrima region in Northern Albania. It is worn mainly from Albanian catholic women, as part of a set of jewelry. The necklace is used to contain religious inscriptions which will protect the owner from evilness and misfortune. The same tradition is used in other parts of Albanian or the Ottoman Empire for that matter. 

  • What a lovely piece of Albanian history. This is worn with the Albanian traditional clothing known as the Xhubleta. I believe this particular one is to ward off the evil eye whereas there is one that looks just like this but the only difference is that it has a little compartment that can slide open at the top where the woman who wore these were able to store their coins/money
