just a show of old and antique claws of different cat sorts of Ethiopia and two antique bracelets from Sidamo,Ethiopia.
what are the bracelets made of? some sort of horn or ivory? They must be quite heavy (at least they look so). I have mixed Feelings about the claws (sorry), I hope this is no more in Fashion...
Eva, These are antique ones. I know one story on them, it is bravery, because they did not kill any of those animals out of fun, it is mostly if the person was threatened, or if they were after the cattle. A claw than was set in silver and and worn by a pregnant woman as protection for the fetus. It was the spirit of brave husband who would give that protection. When in the first years I lived in Ethiopia and wore one of them (it was given by my husband but he didn.t tell me anything) some Ethiopian friends asked me if I was pregnant. I doubt if anybody nowadays would know this believe.. So also with the ivory, Ivory was worn as a protection. These bracelets are antique ivory.
thank you for the Explanation Ingrid.
