Very interesting Peter, though I am afraid I cannot help. The shape is of course reminiscent of Yemeni containers worn on a belt , the stamped or hammered designs and the faux coral look indeed like their arrangement is meaningful. It spontaneously reminds me of Braille script...
I second Betty comment on the yemeni poissibility.....men belt holders as silver coin purses or for ammunition?
