Can anyone tell what these are??

I'm cleaning out a box in my attic and have found lots of items that I didn't know I had.Most of the items were bought in Saudi Arabia in the 70's, but these don't look Saudi to me?

  • Indeed eileen...these pendants are mostly libyan "houafer/salhiyate" horse shoe pendants.

    They are worn in neighbouring countries but yours should bear a shield-like hallmark which is that of Tripoli in Libya

  • They are also worn in necklaces called Aghaiz neslahat by women in the Siwa oasis in Egypt.  I also believe they are found in Tunisia in addition to Libya. Nice find!!
