Identification help needed, please.

I bought these silver beads on the string as shown. They were described as moroccan. They clearly aren`t.The bigger ones seem to me to be Sri Lankan/ S. Indian. I`m thinking the cornerless smaller ones with the plaques are likely to be the same. They are of a good percentage of silver and show traces of gilding.Opinions would be more than welcome.

  • Those grannulated beads are exquisite, i have never seen them....An asian flavour alerts my ethnic jewelery radar but i am otherwise failing to track the exact origin!!

    Sri lankan?

  • Lovely beads Frankie, you are more often lucky to find such beautiful beads.  Well done, no matter where they are from. Gr. Ingrid.

  • But they do give me indian impression.

  • Thanks, friends.

I must say I am pretty thrilled with the cornerless ones, though I`m finding it difficult to know whether true granulation is involved or stamped diamond shapes. The Sri Lankan smiths do seem to use properly granulated diamond plaques though ( see my previous photo ). Possibly they are a mixture.

I certainly haven`t seen such before.

  • A second look reminds me of those sri lankan clasps ...i mean one is clearly having a ceckerboard like pattern rather than a grannulation or stamped diamond motif.... wich i have already seen on srilankan necklace and bracelets

  • ....which is why I mentioned my previous photo, A E ...!

  • Beautiful, congratulations!!  The cornerless beads look like real granulation to me; look at where the granules are missing on a few beads.  A lovely find.
