Sherry did you make this one? All the items used look and are Ethiopian. right?
no I did not I bought these from a woman that came here to the USA for treatment for her child. It is one of 2 I bought . It is newer I love these and it was helping to support her and her art .
yes its Ethiopian
An interesting way to wear it, never seen worn like this before. a lovely necklace. Are the Brown rectangular ones leather amulettes?
Yes Eva, they are very much worn especially in the country side, called ketab, they should hold a protective prayer. They are worn on a woollen or leather cord. The way this bandolier is worn is also as I have shown earlier on with one of my necklaces. Original this is how the Jimma beads in several strings are worn held together with a ring. In Eritrea especially aorund the Massawa area the women used to have a amulet box with some colored beads hanging on a woollen cord also as a bandolier. I have written these facts on the necklace I displayed once, but it obviously didn't reach the imagination.
I am writing this explanation , because it was Sherry asking for some explanation on the items.
Gr. Ingrid.
The ketabs are worn close to the neck. That was just the style it was done, but who is to say it had to be that way, as long it is on the body it should have its effect,I think.
