Holy Water Bottle (?) - Front - Russia

This is a bit of a mystery item and could be so many things. Since the 8cm tall container is featuring an engraved Orthodox cross at the back, I assume that it is some sort of holy water container, which could have been taken along by somebody on the pilgrimage to Jerusalem, or, or, or... Someone suggested also that it could be a perfume container. It features several marks, 84 and an other identification sign plus, a bit further down, the initials of the makers. The second letter of this stamp is not very clear though...Any input is of course very much appreciated.

  • I can't help with the ID, but it's beautiful and fascinating!

  • ... when I saw it I thought it had more of a Balkan feel...looks so much like your wonderful Bulgarian belt buckles. But I am afraid I cannot help either.

  • Dear Betty; I actually got this beauty from Bulgaria. However, the seller was not very knowledgeable about it and it is certainly not common in Bulgaria. Due to this and the fact that it features many stamps, I have allocated it to Russia. However, it could very well been made in Russia and then used in Bulgaria... With kind regards. Peter
