  We have a pair of similar quality which we as it happened bought only fairly recently. We obtained them in Amsterdam  from a dealer who buys most of his objects in Afghanistan. As he had never seen this type of object; did not buy tit from a well-informed source, and could not find out  what it was, we bought it for a very good price, from our point of view. We are very glad we did. Our finding real bargains from time to time enables us to pay full prices at other times, or possibly to make up for prices too high which we have occasionally also paid!!

  I have had three of these, one with the other piece that goes with it as a set.  I have a whole drawing of how these were worn and used, do you have that? Also a listing of all the tribes in the area of where this was worn, not the usual groups who are along the amu darya river area. The dealers don't know what to make of them and think they are for bra's. Not realizing they are headdresses...  The next one  of these i get I think I will keep for the poor replacement for the one I just sold you!

  Even this simpler version of the Uzbeki piece we are buying is STILL rare, and I am sure harder and harder to get ... So I wish you luck! I am happy for us both to have your much more important piece and this - also important and good - type. CAN YOU IN SOME WAY SEND ME A COPY OF THAT DRAWING? NO, I DON'T HAVE THAT, THOUGH I DO HAVE AT LEAST TWO BOOKS FROM WHICH I KNOW THAT THIS IS A HEADDRESS ...

  Yes, we do have the Schletzer book, and that is one reason why I now what this is. But, having just looked in it, I find the piece illustrated allright, but no indication (at least not visually) as to how it is worn. So I can  still do with that drawing, unless it is on another page you can refer me to (but I don't see it myself). I think it is also in Rudolph - a very useful book - but again not showing how it is actually worn: I have long wanted to know, so trust you will satisfy my curiosity!

  Years ago I bought these from a dealer who mistook them for breastplates until I pointed out the illustration in Schletzer. They are accompanied by a crescent shape disc which is relatively rare to find but I keep looking for it nonetheless.    Hi Pat,

  I sold one like this too with the multi stones around the central carnelian this is also a nice one.  I have posted that other piece to show what should go with it.  I have only had one of those but if I see another one I'll let you know..  I purchased one on line of a bad photo for not much and when I got it I realized it was a newly made up one. Terrible.  I think they were trying it for the belly dancing crowd because it's an odd thing to start reproducing.  No one really selling them ever knows what they are.

  Thank you, I would appreciate your help as I would love to have the other piece. Yes, I don't understand any reason whatsoever to reproduce them, how would you even wear it, I think,in fact, it was originally worn on a big old turban which seems kind of cumbersome for belly dancing.
