Nice piece from Taddert..
I have one just like it!

Hi I like the ruralness of it. I got it the last time I was there I think two years ago. I love stuff with old worn coins.
Yes, I also like Moroccan (or other) headpieces with coins. I remember talking Truus into one we bought in Morocco many years ago, which she is now very glad to have got!! She liked the piece, but worried about the money - not because it was too dear, but as we had already bought a good deal while travelling. But that is what happens ... No wife I could possibly have would complain that I'd not want to buy jewellery, for the urge is inside me, per se, and has been since I was about eight. So, I am glad - for Truus's sake as well as mine - that I won out. We really do collect jewellery together - not as separate partners, as we like it equally strongly. I may have many faults, but not liking jewellery is not one of them!!
I suppose I am very lucky - or actually that WE (Truus and I) are - in our not being dealers, and indeed not even buying for "investment" either. It means that we really do go for pieces that we want us to satisfy, and satisfy ongoingly. It is in THAT particular sense that we are very critical: NOT, as is often thought, because we only want e.g. expensive or prestigious pieces. Yes, we often do buy pieces in that category, but that is because many of the most appealing pieces simply do have to cost a lot. However, we also still get great satisfaction from e.g. a New Guinea piece that costs us no more than $150, if it is interesting and pleasing, and if it will continue to be that to us. If we were dealers, we'd have to look at the whole situation very differently, and one problem we would have, Linda, is exactly yours, i.e. that a collector (as you too basically are) cannot part from many pieces, while if you are a dealer as well as a collector you will inevitably - even in good times - sell pieces that you would have been glad to keep! I know a good Oceanic dealer who COLLECTS something completely different, so as to dodge the problem of having to sell Oceanic pieces he would otherwise get attached to. It works, for him. He likes the Oceanic pieces he buys greatly but knows by definition that he is buying them for selling, not to keep. So he does not bond with them. I bond with an awful lot of art objects - and people, for that matter.
I think for me the jewelry collection would be less integral if I didn't wear it and incorporate it within my clothing regime also. As well I find decorating with it ie in situ to a particular room scheme is somehing that is part of the way I design. I have not done it in my house yet as the rooms are not done, but in the rooms I have started it all makes sense. I have many pieces mounted so they act as objects of art and it looks fabulous. As well, I don't just wear ethnic jewelry and put it on, I design out fits that co ordinate with antique costume, designer clothing shoes everything become like an art peice when it's very good for me as I like doing it and it attracts alot of good business and I have done it since I was in high school. So in a sense by getting rid of all that stuff would be like changing my persona. As it is though I live in a very boring and conservative town. I do dress up on occasion here but it's tough since I mostly just go and post , food shop and garden. I'm keeping up a position that is not appreciated here in my town. However when I go to the city , or out to openings or shows etc it's me with my stuff. I like it and I really find it hard to remove the accoutrements from my routine. I did however raid the coffers today again and will be sending out a few new things to the universe !
