So these would have been made for the women of the 'Court' ... I wonder how widespread it was. It would be good to know if it was just the Imam's wives who could wear them or whether others were entitled as well. Are details like this available?
As I understand from the bits of information I have read in Ester Muchawsky-Schnapper's work and int Zion Mansour Ozeri's captions in his photographic essay on the Jews of Yemen, they were commissioned specifically by the Imam himself and the silversmith was not to use this design for anyone else.
The Jewish women avoided wearing jewelry with the Islamic symbols.
