Hello, Kathleen,
This piece is very interesting to me. I have two necklaces from Yemen with amulets like these. I recognized that they are quite different from the typical Yemen amulets in the rest of my collection. They were bought by a Yemeni dealer in Sana'a and sold to us while we lived here in the U. S.
Since the amulets were strung with coral beads, he probably assumed they were Yemeni. Interesting, too are the openwork lantern type beads. Are they also Ethiopian?
A interesting necklace! The amulet box (?) in the middle is different from the ones I know. Is it, like the small ones, not hollow? I have a necklace with those small amulets and silver beads like yours and coral beads from Salalah in Oman. But the silver from there that is sometimes looking a lot like Yemeni jewelry. Your Ethiopian necklace seems very much related to Yemeni jewelry like a lot of Ethiopian items.
