hi carry. i think it is a munition box. i have semilar one with some leather
Yes, munition box. If you look at my pictures p.3 there is something similar called Saharan container and I was told by Kebzari that it was also for munition. Mine is rounded without the dangles.
It was sold to me (and to the person who bought them as well) as a container for salt for the caravans to use in the desert......sounded a nice and romantic explanation but unfortunately it wasnt such a peaceful use! Kebzari mentioned their use in Turkey.
what all people tell. it is small for salt and salt they put it in leather bags. they dont carry it .
I bought it yesterday for 10 dollars
Thanks for the feedback I really liked it and did not show too much interest !!
Very good price.Congratulations. Mine went higher on ebay.(and you have got the dangles!).
Maybe but mine is smaller, about 5cms! They cant have had very long battles with such small powder/bullet containers !
Mone is small too the box itself is maybe 5cm and the bangles and something on the top makes it look a little larger then the 5cm. Do you know how old it is???
Nope! When I thought it was a salt container I thought 19th C or early 20th when there were caravans across the sahara.........but as an army kit maybe early /midlle 20th C......I cant imagine the Turkish army wearing it now? Its onmy guesswork..........I also saw it on ebay sold as a container for snuff (?) or spices..........No one seems very sure!
I just like it because it is not strait forwarded piece!
