Ethiopian Earrings - North Ethiopia - 1

a pair of very old Ethiopian Earrings from the North, silver with copper and/or brass or Gold. I think the top part was once guilded (the part with the starlike rays).Perhaps it was not a matching pair, as one has silver knobs on the top and the other more copper. Diameter 2,6 cm, heavy, 0,6 cm thick

  • They are wonderful, Eva! I've never seen such a pair before. Quite unusual and very delicate. I would also think that they were gilded - this was very common in the North of Ethiopia and the region that is now Eritrea. I see that there is a bail attached to the earrings - maybe they once had some dangles?

  • @Hi Betty, thanks. Yes, it Looks as if once there were dangles on this bail. The actual ring is rather thick  (too thick for our modern ear holes), but I can put it on another ring (on that bail) and wear them... quite nice!
