Egyptian Folk Necklace or Head Ornament

A necklace or head ornament with knitted chain, two rows of coins, and silver bells. The coins are a mix of real coins and jewelry coins, dated to the mid to late 1800s. The chain and bells are .800 silver, the coins are low silver. Any ideas of what this was and where it was worn?

  • Dear Betty and Peter, thank you for your comments.  I agree with you, I suspect it was a head ornament which is now a choker that sits very close to the neck.
