  • I don't know if the rectangular amulets are real Zar. I'm not sure about the dates. I think the M (with a cat) is 1935. Can someone explain the Z-yearletter in combination with the cat (which is a hallmark before 1946).

  • HI Johanne, I'll look that up for you.

The upper two amulets are zar-amulets, the lower one is an amulet case that can be used both in the zar and in general. How interesting you have the contents of it! Is that scroll contemporary with the amulet case, or is it a later addition?

  • Ha Sigrid,

I have bought it a few years ago on a flea-market with the scroll inside. The seller bought it in Israël. She thought it was Jewish silver. But she was very disappointed it had an Arabic text inside, and not a Hebrew one... So she wanted to sell it! For me, it doesn't make sence. I was happy to buy it.( I think the silversmith was  Jewish..)

  • the zar amulets are from:

    hallmark cat+Z= 1924-1925

    hallmark cat+M= 1937-1938

    hallmark cat+K= 1935-1936

  • @ Harold . Thank you very much for dating the silver hallmarks! I had an idea the Z was the oldest, but I was not sure.. I like the silver bracelets you posted very much. I have a fibula set with chain, it looks like one of yours; the Choutka ,Sous Valley one.. I will post a picture in the future. Are you collecting for along time ? (Leuk dat er weer een nederlands Ethnic jewels -lid bij is! Bedankt voor je informatieve reactie. Veel plezier op dit forum, Harald!

  • I am collecting for quite a while, about 30  years.
