  • Yes ,it 's a headpiece . A nice similar piece is to see in the book Silver Speaks by Joyce Diamanti, but that one has two longer dangles at the ends.
  • thanks, yes I had seen that one, but can't find the book at the moment, for further reference.......Kathleen had a Kuchi attributed one in a similar stlye on here....... https://ethnicjewels.ning.com/photo/kuchi-21?context=user#!/photo/kuchi-16?context=user

it's very heavy, I can't imagine wearing that on my head!

  • odd, you need to enter entire URL or it brings up the wrong piece......
  • It is Yemeni, I have a similar one. I will see if I can add the pic here

https://ethnicjewels.ning.com/photo/silver-yemeni-headband?context=user They come in silver and in old metal, the silver is very heavy.

  • oh, thanks Patricia, not sure how much this weighs, my gram scale isn't large, all I can tell is that it is over 400 grams.  I am pretty sure this isn't silver, just silver coloured.  Any idea of age?  I noticed the lower row of beads on mine is similar to yours.  I find them to be very detailed to be made of non precious metal, but I guess they were made according to wealth.  Does yours have coral also?
  • I guess this is probably first half of 20th century. I really  don't know composition of beads but my guess would be some sort of plastic as opposed to coral. I don't have the piece before me, but often they will mix resin stuff with silver. Actually, this was kind of expensive at the time I bought it because of the massive silver weight.
  • Anna Garner just posted another piece on here that is also very similar, marked as a collar or headband.  https://ethnicjewels.ning.com/photo/antique-yemen-woven-silver-back?...!/photo/antique-yemen-woven-silver-collar-or-headband?context=latest hers in silver looks more refined than mine in white metal? coin silver?  It's nice to be able to do that sort of comparison on here. thanks all.....
