  • Hello Linda, I have the following "impertinent?" question: why do you and other sellers on this site not mention the prices of the items you offer for sale?

For my self I know that after asking about 2 times for a price I dare not do so any more.

  • Because in some cases published prices on something that might go to private clients I have is not a good idea. They don't like it or want the prices out there for people to see what they paid also in case it needs to be sold again. This kind of buisness is not also commercial so in cases where I'm taking things out of my private collection if some one is interested then they should just ask the way I do when I like something.

  • Thank you for the explanation.

  • A very good question Harald. Thank you for asking it! I never had the guts to ask but kept wondering.......and this is why I like ebay and the dealers who have ebay shops, all is clear from the start about the price..........Personally I would never dare ask for a price (very silly I know, but we all have different attitudes to money).

  • Another issue is marketing. In some cases vendors who are not sure of pricing sometimes look to people like myself to figure out what something is worth. I get asked all the time and it's fine when it's people you know or doing business with.  It is hard to also negotiate pricing when the final prices are out there to see especially on more expensive or rare items when coming in from source vendors especially. I normally tell people I'm selling for (consignment)  what the retail will be on it and take a cut when working with privates to establish values if something was purchased long ago and they have no idea. If from dealers it is much more cut and dry and is also why most of us dealers have no problem asking pricing.   In  most cases it is better for the dealers to try and establish their own pricing. I also do a fair amount of appraisal work and people pay for it. It is something that is not an exact science but one has to see alot and know alot to be able to put together pricing. I'm not running an ebay style business and never have so it makes it a bit more private in the way information is treated for the benefit of the people trying to earn a living at it and also  for the privacy of the clients.
