Sorry, the comments refer to this picture. But I also love the buttons. I wonder where you found them?
I like Central Asia jewels and textiles and I found them in Boukhara.
Thank you Lanajnaj. You have a lovely collection. And you can see I am having problems with 'left' and 'right' this morning. The asyk I particularly like is on the 'left' at the bottom. Pretty turquoise and violet stones ...and pearls?
I can only agree with Thelma: a very lovely collection! I am amazed that you can still find such beauties in Bukhara. Congrats!
Dear Betty thanks,I am an young old lady and I buy many pieces of my collection
more than 30 years ago.I was in Uzbekistanand 3 years ago and it was impossible to find jewellery
I too was in Uzbekistan several years ago. Some jewelry was available at the tourist bazaar in Bokhara but for very high prices. I was invited to look at a private collection but I declined, mainly because I felt the prices would be prohibitive to me. There was dearth of any antiques for sale in Uzbekistan -- and I also felt that they would be confiscated at the airport ( they did inspect my baggage very carefully and tried to confiscate some brand new pen boxes) BTW, aside from the dearth of buying opportunites, Uzbekistan is a great pleasure to visit, nice people and fantastic monuments, wish I could go again.
Thanks Lanajnaj and Patricia. I would love to travel to Uzbekistan some day. Two years ago we travelled in Russia (using public transport!) - all the way to the border with Kazakhstan. Now the plan is to take from there and to make our way to Uzbekistan. My husband speaks Russian which helps a lot even in central Asia we were told. Now we wait until we have both, time AND money. But I was never hoping to buy jewellery. A vintage chapan would be nice, though :-)
I think all the chapans I saw ( and there weren't many) were quite overpriced. Really, there are some lovely old pieces on ebay that would outshine anything I saw there. Just sayin'. What Uzbekistan is outstanding for is the current art and handicraft -- some really impressive craftsmen there well worth buying from.
