Caucasian - probably Kubachi - belt

This belt is made of silver, which has been gilt and enamelled. It is probably from Kubachi, Dagestan (c.1900 or a little earlier): (1) A Caucasian belt with enamelling is most likely to be from Kubachi anyway, and (2) *Jewellery from the Orient - Treasures from the Bir Collection*, p. 275, shows two belts with just such a semi-circular clasp as specifically coming from Kubachi. The Dagestani smiths were fabled for their fine work, which we see in evidence here. Bought, with gratitude, from our EJ friend howah.
