Bukharan Horse Ornament

This shows the "core" (the central amulet) of a very large neckpiece for a horse from Bukhara (Uzbekistan). Only the emir himself or the rare people similarly rich could have owned such an ornament, and it is generally believed that these pieces belonged to the emir himself. It is silver-gilt, very finely made, and is set with pieces of turquoise. Late 19th c.
