Bridal gown. Balıkesir /Turkey. 1930-40s.

Bridal gown from Balıkesir town (& nearby villages). Late-Ottoman style, 1930-40s. Silk robe, adorned with middle-sized roses in golden thread embroidery, golden spirals & copper sequins. The technique of white silk threads connecting the sequins (creating branch-like motifs) is called 'Balıkesir pullusu' (= with sequins, of Balıkesir). Purchased in Bursa in 1996. (Inv.n° bin013 - Kavak Costume Collection -Antwerpen/Belgium).
