  • Very beautiful. I found similar bracelets to these in Heather Colyer Ross's book on Bedouin jewellery. She suggests that they strongly resemble work from the Far East possibly through Arabian trade links along the Silk Roads.

  • Dear Thelma, Many thanks for your message. This suggestion is very much valid. I bought recently two antique belts from Sumatra, the designs of which are basically the predecessors of the gorgeous and very heavy belts, that can be found on Socotra Islands, south of Yemen. I will leave for vacation in Switzerland and France (with a short stay in Jordan to visit my friends and hopefully also Madame Widad Kawar) shortly and will post both of each design as comparison. They will show how the designs were brought from the Far East to the Middle East by the seafarers. With kind regards. Peter
