Beautiful items and photo, Jose!
Very impressive and unusual. All three of them. Makes good defensive weapons as well.
Nice group, Jose. I especially like the Gujarati gokhru. Very curious about that beautiful face/mask! Is that bail on top? Is this a huge pendant?
I think that this mask is a temple statue jewelry . I have seen a huge one strung on a silver chain lately.
Very nice group
Great photo.
Thank you very much. I have very few Indian pieces as I am more on pieces from other areas. The mask is about 16x11x4 cm and the bail is rather some sort of hook. It looks like it was meant to decorate a wall or, as Alaa suggests, as some sort of decoration at a temple. I do not really know.
Alaa, of course - that's very likely what the mask is. They're not easy to come by I would think! I'm still curious about that bail....These masks are used over the face of temple idols, together with other covers in silver - body armour for instance. I thought these were placed over the face of the idol and then held in place with fabric or thread, or perhaps also temple jewellery.
Beautiful items and gorgeous photo!
Thank you, Eva. @Preethi - here you have a pic of the bail (hook) of the mask
