Belt - Kurdistan-Iraq

This is an absolute gorgeous belt! The niello works are typical for Iraq but then the belt is featuring an elegance, which can rarely be observed in this type of belts (similar ones are more crude). It is coming very close to the Iraqi-Kurdish Christian belt, which I have recently posted (this piece is originating from the same collection). Definitely a rare and special piece!

  • Wonderful!

  • Beautiful, Peter. But it looks quite small. Is it for a child or for a very young woman perhaps?

  • Dear Thelma; This belt is of quite a good size and not smaller than others. It is a rather mighty belt and very wide, which is probably why you see it as short. Belts are given usually on the occasion of marriage and since in older days, the marriage took place at a rather young age, the belts are accordingly small. With kind regards. Peter
