Belt - Caucasian Region

This heavy belt is extraordinary! It has all characteristics of a Russian belt. However, the typical Russian hallmarks are missing - each link is featuring a Cyrillic 2-letter stamp. • A great piece, but I must admit I too have a problem identifying just where it comes from. I think your suggestions are very good, but would even so add that I feel reminded of the Caucasus as well. Syria is another country I find myself thinking of. All of which goes to show that I don't really know!!

  • The prominence of the crescent moon and star motif does of course for one thing suggest Turkey - but it by no means confined to that country ... It's a very STRONG piece. I like it very much, and hope it will get more closely identified!

  • Maybe Georgian or Armenian ??
