Beautiful belt Peter, no matter from where it came. Fantastic piece .
Unfortunately I cannot help with this one, Peter. It might well be Armenian, but there are also other possibilites. I suppose it is not hallmarked?
Otherwise, as Mustafa already said, it is a fantastic piece. You do not often see complete belts such as this beauty. Congratulations! Betty
Such a splendid and masterfully executed piece. i really love it when niello is not overwhelmingly applied all over the silver. here niello touches bring enough contrast to highlight the work on the silver!
Can't say from which part of the Caucasus it hails though!
Beautiful work, gives me a very Turkish impression. So strong in its refined simplicity and beautiful because of its high skilled work. Although the paisley pattern and the color of the turquois stones brings also Iran to mind.
A very interesting belt which I have not seen before (as is so often the case with your museum pieces Peter!!) The niello is incredibly detailed and sophisticated, and those raised gilt fronds are stunning. While the overall shape of the belt is more traditional. My guess is that Linda Pastorino would be able to ID it.
This is Caucasian and used by the Kabardinian people from Ossetian Republic in Mozdok. They are either Sunni or Orthadox Christians.
Dear All; Many thanks for your messages and Linda, many thanks for identifying this belt - much appreciated. With kind regards. Peter
