Taken by an Italian photographer at the turn of the century, she is wearing a series of silver rings ("khors") probably secured by leather or fabric straps running under her head scarf.

it is very interesting to note that this build up of hoops earrings was to be found all across north africa especially among sahara dwellers (nomads and oasis dwellers alike)

Thanks Ayis! I found this photo particularly interesting because the jewelry could be either Tunisian or Libyan. This fits with your comment about the widespread use of this type of ornament.
