Hi Micheal I think that this bead may be of an earlier origin. The colours and the quality of the glass, and the formation of the coloured layers lead me to believe that this may be an ancient roman bead ( 900- 2000 years old)

This ring is definitively afghani but concerning the bead , you could perfectly be right and this is a good news ... I will increase my price at once ! (humor!!!!)
More seriously, the beads set in the rings are always more aged than the bodies which often have been repared, sized, etc

your bead fragment in a ring is a section of a particular type of ancient islamic bead known as "folded" which are similar period to the ones linked and shown by Sarah, but more distinctive and complex so that bead is even rarer!
