my family heirloom came from my grandmothers side, passed from female to oldest first born. so its very hard to track really with genealogy. My grandmother was born in Canada the necklace from Austria. my great uncle remembers the story about the necklace but i think much was twisted or embellished over generations. it was to have come from Austrian decent. supposed royalty(I do not buy that part) and taken with when they fled the country. my father remembers a matching ornate butterfly comb that came missing upon grandmas death. i am going to see if he will try and draw the comb. could it have been wedding related? The necklace was restrung approx. 1940's the thread has not help up and some of the beads are off but still present. I once wore it to my sisters wedding. I had been told to twist the bead strands and wear clasp at back of neck(nape). it worked well this way. seems to be silver with gild plaiting..? Beads are hand cut and drilled garnets. I do not think it was restrung correctly as the thread shows from the front there must have once been beads there. any info welcome, thank you
very beautiful piece
the austria origine is plausible, it was actualy a trend in germany , austria, polen,ex zchechoslovakia and some regions around. it was end 19 th untl begining 20 th century a trend.
silver with garnet combination was well loved and made in all kind of jewelry
