Anklet from Madura

Made from copper-nickle alloy, this anklet comes from an island just off the northeast coast of Java. It probably dates to the first half of the 20th century. Many similar anklets were crudely executed, but this one has nice workmanship.

  • This anklet is based in earlier Javanese forms.  The slightly graduated globular forms at the ring of the anklet are similar to ancient ones.
