  • This is very interesting, but can you please explain how it was worn?

  • It was worn on the upper arm !! I have a picture from another one also worn in then same way, but it is a more common one!
  • This is one of my favorite pieces out of my collection!! I bought it in Kabul/Afganistan and it is worn by man on the upper arm and inside it has Koran text!!
What is really nice that nit has the original strings what holds the two pieces together!!
  • It may be called a bazuband, much like the Iranian bazubands. I am wondering, maybe somebody can answer this question. Most of the bazubands I have collected and seen are either from Iran or Afghanistan both of which countries have considerable Shia populations -- are they specificall Shia jewelry or do the Sunni use them as well. Would love to know the answer to this.

  • Usually Sunni man in Egypt do not wear jewels!! Even not a bazuband!!! I believe in other
countries where Sunni Moslem they also do not wear jewelry!! But of course their is always an influence of tradition!!!
  • I just consulted with a Muslim man who also knows about jewelry and he indicates that this is primarily a Shiite custom, not Sunni. Thanks for the input!
