A pair of pendants from Himachal Pradesh

A pair of enameled silver pendants from India, Himachal Pradesh. With floral elements forming a tree of life, encircled by the protective world snake. This iconography is thought to be behind the torques of Pakistan. Today these ornaments are worn by the Gaddi people of Himachal Pradesh. While quite large they are too small to be the Chirri-Tikka, huge ornaments worn on the top of the head. Perhaps these were side pendants on a three-part head ornament? With gratitude, from the collection of Ahmad Zadran / Tribal Art Heritage @ Facebook.
