A century or so old, which is about the most that most which survive are. This shows its wonderful silver cladding (far better and fuller than on any of some scores we have seen). On the left is the circular hole enabling one to create a powerful sound by using the embouchure for the kind of trumpet employed in brass bands, jazz, etc. An object to be seen and heard! I always produce a blast when I show the piece to visitors (an irresistible thing to do).

  • Mostly repoussé, ayis: that is the dominant mode. But subsequently much of it was also finely engraved from the front, so that you get a double whammy of refinement. Yes, it is a glorious piece. I had it on my main Facebook page a number of months back, and was impressed by the huge number of people who liked it. It was extremely popular. And we love it ourselves, which is the most important thing!
