Wow, this is gorgeous, Raisa. I love the use of those filigreed bosses studded with turquoise which are used at intervals around the belt. Beautiful granulation. I suppose the old leather was threaded through those loops on the inside of the metal. A lucky find!
Peter Hoesli Thank you!
I have been receiving conflicting and contradictory information on the origin of these belts. good to know where they are from exactely.
Raisa, do you know if these were worn elsewhere in the caucasus ?
Alaa eddine SAGID
These belts were in Dagestan, Ossetia, Cherkessia, Kabardino-Balkaria, Chechnya,
Azerbaijan, Georgia
Belts are different forms.
Dagestan jewelers worked in other republics too, so often encountered similar items.
Very, very beautiful! I saw this style in Georgia and Armenia, too, but don't know if they were from these countries or traded there.
As you say, Raisa, the Caucasus is such a complex mix of people that it it hard to identify pieces which are often similar.
When you talk of different forms, Raisa: what makes this from recognizable as work from Dagestan or a jeweler from there?
Wonderful news Raissa.
Make sure to have a section in english or in dual languages, i will be very interested to buy a copy when it is released
Oh yes, please do, Raisa! I think you are going to have many avid readers!
