Close-up of a traditional festive ensemble (‘şalvar’/baggy trousers + ‘cepken’/long-sleeved vest) from the Afyon province. Late-Ottoman, urban style, circa 1900. Adorned with goldwork embroidery (in ‘Maraş işi’-technique) on silk. Trousers and vest were purchased in Afyon in 1989; the hat and belt were found in Bursa, the necklace in Konya. (Kavak Costume Collection - Antwerpen/Belgium).
