Selsela Head Ornament

A silver selsela chain with coins ranging in date from 1881 to 1939. These ornaments are hooked to the head scarf with the triangular shaped hooks. I believe it is worn according to the woman's mood either across the top of the head, across the forehead, or even behind the head.

  • Despite seeing many photos of Tunisian women wearing these, I have yet to see a publication describing this type of head ornament.  It seems to have been very common, but this is the first complete assemblage I have ever come across.  I don't know if it has a specific name.
