  • Dear Savannah,
These are very beautiful amulets indeed. They are originating from the Iran/Afganistan border region, featuring sacred writings. I have such a piece with the corresponding chain (with many paisley shaped drops on it), which was given to the bride as a dowry. The names of husband and wife are written on, together with many other information, wishes, etc.. With kind regards. Peter
  • Thankyou so much Peter for this fantastic information. The picture loaded before I could write"  I found all of these in Turkey, from a man who has family in Afghanistan.  They are all silver.  More comments welcome.Thanks."

  • Dear Savannah,
Many thanks for your message. You can also see such amulets in the book "World of Necklaces".
I agree with you, Yemeni jewelry is absolutely magnificent. I have been to Sana'a some time ago and would absolutely love to return - the old town of Sana'a is like a museum! I very much like the Omani and Ottoman jewelry but have also some Caucassian, Central Asian and others in my collection. I will visit Tunis again later this month - I have reserved some magnificent (Jewish) items during my last visit there...
With kind regards and best wishes.
    Peter
