  • More very unusual pieces (to me anyway). How recent or old do you think these are? Have never seen them on ebay!

  • Thanks a lot, Chantal. There is a similar but not identical golden one in Azza Fahmy's "Enchanted Jewellery of Egypt", chapter on Peasant and sha'bi jewelry. I do not think that they are particularly old. My guess would be 1950-1960's.

  • Dear Jose; They are really beautiful. Congratulations. Peter

  • With little stars and moon..maybe the large frontal disc is the sun?

  • I have looked for these peasant jewelry in Egypt and i could only find the more tribal ones assiciated with Siwa, western oases and sinai....a rare find.
Even if they are caparatively more recent i think they are quite rare due to shift of fashion and the deeply penetrating city influences into nile valley and delta peasant culture
  • A beautiful find.  Congratulations!

  • Thank you very much!.
