Palestinian Temporal

This is an old Palestinian temporal or temple ornament which was worn on either side of the Hebron wedding hat. In low silver and high grade silver combined. The blue stones are wound glass. This jewel shows what I love in Palestinian jewelry... the soft, round shapes, the contrast of the sophisticated filigree with tribal symbolism. With many thanks to Jyrki Lammi. • Dear Lynn; A truly wonderful piece. I am still trying to find such a hat. But if successful, it would cost a bomb - for sure! I already have the temple decorations, which I have posted together with another very large ornament in the same style, on EJ a few months ago. My temple decorations are of the same style as yours but around 50cm long. I agree with your previous comments, Palestinian jewelry is very soulful and I too, love it very much. Oh well, it is time for me to visit Jerusalem again... Congratulations on a rare and beautiful find Lynn. With kind regards. Peter

  • An interesting piece, Lynn. Thanks for sharing.

Your photos are very sharp and show details well. May I ask if you're using a lightbox or scanner or something else?

  • Thank you so much for your comments, Peter and Preethi.  Peter, I remember your Palestinian temporals vividly - they were one of your first photos I saw, and I fell in love with them!  I am sure you will find the hat eventually.

Preethi thank you for your compliment! I use a light box and experiment with different lighting.  My recent photos have been taken with the light box outside on a cloudy day, with strong daylight lights on either side in addition to the indirect sunlight from above.  I do not use a macro setting, I find it loses too many details.  This was taken straight down with the top of the light box open.
